We currently have 3 products that contain a sulphate these are our Bubble Bath, Clear Hand Wash and Clear Body Wash which use a sulphate called Sodium Coco-Sulfate.
Sulfates have good foaming and cleansing properties and are readily rinsed off.
When used, they will leave skin and hair thoroughly clean and fresh, so we do offer these as an alternative option in some products where these properties are important.
The Sodium coco-sulfate we use is a naturally derived product made from whole vegetable oil which has a much greater range of larger molecules which do not enter skin, and therefore causes much less irritation than synthetically derived sulphates.
We do also add a refatting agent to our sulfate containing bases to prevent it being too stripping despite being thoroughly cleansing. (We use this in our own bathrooms.)
All Hera formulations have passed 12 weeks stability testing allowing for a 30 month shelf life therefore an expiry date is not required on product labels.
A period after opening (PAO) symbol is required. This varies between which packaging type is used;
– Closed container = 12M
– Open container = 6M
We use a combination of Ethylhexylglycerin and Phenoxyethanol which is a globally approved paraben-free preservative that is effective against bacterial, yeast and fungal growth.
We have tried a wide range of other preservatives in the past, we’ve always found this to be the best one that works with our high percentage of natural ingredients. Although synthetically mass produced, phenoxyethanol is found in nature in plants such as green tea and chicory.
The levels we use, are all within the cosmetic regulations and ensure our products remain safe and well protected against micro-organisms.
We cannot change our core formulations but if you have a request regarding removal of a carrier oil or natural extract then please get in touch.
Where applicable you are able to customise our bases by adding up to 3 extracts and 1 fragrance or essential oil blend from our catalogue.
No, our standard formulations have already been approved and tested to meet UK and EU Regulation (EC) N° 1223/2009.

No.
Why do the ingredient lists on some of your products look
different?
Because of new EU cosmetic regulations, we are required to list additional allergens and update some ingredient names. We may also find that some levels of those ingredients need to change to remain compliant.
Have the product formulas changed?
In most cases, no. The product is the same — only the way we label
certain ingredients has changed. If there are any actual formula updates, we
will clearly communicate them.
Why are more allergens listed now?
The EU regulations are expanding the list of substances that must be declared.
This doesn’t mean the product has more allergens than before — it just means
you can now see more detail about what’s inside.
What are the INCI changes?
The new rules harmonise these names across Europe and globally, so sometimes an
ingredient you already know may appear under a slightly different name.
Does this mean the products are less safe?
Not at all. Our products remain fully safe and compliant. The new labels are
simply about providing more information and ensuring we meet the highest
regulatory standards.
When will I see the new labels?
You’ll start seeing updated packaging gradually as we roll out the changes to
comply with the new regulations. During this time, both old and updated labels
may appear on shelves.
Are only EU countries affected by the change?
Unfortunately not, some other countries outside the EU have decided to
also adopt the extended allergens, such as Canada and Norway. If you sell into
any other countries, please let us know.
I sell only to the UK, do I need make any changes
to my labels because of this?
No, some countries such as the UK and USA do not currently plan to
implement these changes, however it is likely they will in the future.
If you sell into both the UK and Ireland, you will need to comply with
the changes.
Can I label the extended allergens on my product
being sold in the UK / USA even though not required?
Yes, there are no restrictions to being able to label the extra
allergens now if you want to make sure you are compliant before new regulations
become implemented in the UK/USA.
