Sensitive skincare solutions
Do you suffer from sensitive skin? Whether you experience tingling, itching, redness, or dryness, you’re likely to be facing symptoms of skin sensitivity. And you’re not alone - it’s something that’s reported to affect up to 71% of the UK population. For beauty brands, it’s a huge target market to understand and support with carefully crafted formulations, suitable for even the most delicate skin.
People who experience skin reactions can find it hard to know which beauty products are best suited to their needs. Sometimes symptoms are made worse by the continuous shift between trending ingredients rather than sticking with products designed for sensitive skin. Delicate complexions need more than just ‘mild’ formulas. They require science-backed, carefully considered products that restore the skin’s natural balance.
As a trusted private label skincare manufacturer in the UK, we understand what’s needed and take pride in helping beauty brands create formulations that protect and nourish the skin - delivering results without irritation. So, what do you need to consider? Let’s take a look at what’s required to set your brand ahead of its competitors.
Understanding sensitive skin
The first thing to know is that sensitive skin can react to many commonly used cosmetic ingredients - such as fragrances or certain preservatives. Skin sensitivity can also be triggered by environmental factors (such as soaring pollution levels) and lifestyle elements (such as sun damage, poor sleep habits, or high stress levels) and by using a variety of unsuitable skincare or makeup products.
Hera Beauty’s innovative research and development process starts with understanding the triggers sensitive skin sufferers may face. We select hypoallergenic ingredients and avoid anything that may cause irritation. For sensitive skin, it’s best to steer clear of synthetic colours and fragrances, parabens, essential oils, sulphates and high levels of alcohol, which all have the potential to cause skin flare-ups.
When you’re catering to sensitive skin, it’s important to avoid unnecessary additives and to keep the ingredient list minimalist and transparent. Consumers want clean, natural ingredients with no chemicals or ‘fillers’. They’re searching for formulations that have been proven to work and data to back up the claims.
Ingredients that hydrate, reduce redness, and strengthen the skin’s barrier are recommended. Examples of well-known soothing ingredients include ceramides - which are essential components of the skin’s barrier, helping to lock in moisture and protect against external irritants. Aloe vera is known for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, while green tea helps to protect the skin from environmental damage, and chamomile possesses calming and soothing properties.
Rigorous testing protocols
Before a formulation reaches the shelves - whether online or in-store - we evaluate every ingredient for safety and compliance with cosmetic regulations. Our team designs skincare products that use gentle ingredients, pH-balanced systems, and skin-friendly preservatives. The levels meet cosmetic regulations to ensure our products remain safe to use.
When testing formulations, we gain independent verification by GBA Group, which offers in-depth laboratory analysis. This includes dermatological patch-testing on 20 people to see the formulation’s suitability for sensitive skin. Products can also be tested on 50 people using a HRIPT (Human Repeat Insult Patch Test), which involves regular application for a clinical tolerance test. This is carried out over a four-week period to show results following prolonged contact between skin and product. These tests help to confirm if a formulation can be well-tolerated, if it is non-irritant, and demonstrates it has been dermatologically tested.
Our new SPF50 Moisturiser
At Hera Beauty, we’ve recently launched a new SPF50 Hybrid Moisturiser, which offers powerful sun protection alongside lightweight hydration for the face and body. It’s formulated to moisturise the skin without feeling greasy.
We designed this gel SPF to be gentle on the skin, and the latest independent product testing results affirm its status as a leading formulation for both skin protection and safety. This means it’s well-suited for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and babies (6 weeks+) - offering effective protection for even the most vulnerable skin.
Perfect for everyday use, the scientists noted that the product “prioritises safety without compromising efficacy”, demonstrating exactly the balance we strive for in every high-quality formulation we create. Your skin deserves nothing less.
