Meet the team - Vasile Rus, Production Supervisor

In this series of meet the team articles, we give you the insider information on some of our team members, whose experience and expertise combine to help beauty brands achieve their goals. In this article, we introduce you to Vasile Rus, Hera Beauty’s production supervisor.

Hi Vasile, can you explain more about what you do?

As the production supervisor, I'm responsible for a team of around 30 people and for ensuring the manufacturing process runs smoothly. I have three line leaders who report to me. For each order that comes into production, I'm there to ensure all processes are followed. This includes health and safety, quality control, liaising with the warehouse department, and communicating with the senior management team too.

What was your route into this position?

I’ve actually just celebrated my seventh anniversary with Hera Beauty! I started as a chemistry engineer back in Romania. When I moved to the UK, I didn't initially get the chance to work in my chosen field of chemistry. Then I saw an advertisement for a production operative at Hera Beauty, which I interviewed for and was soon offered the role. I was quickly promoted to team leader and then, after that, to production supervisor.

Do you enjoy managing a team? And how do you think your team would describe you? 

I like working with people. It’s a challenging role, but it gives me satisfaction for many reasons. I enjoy overcoming problems, finding solutions, and achieving success for our partners. It’s also really satisfying to see team members step up in their roles. I’m keen to support people to develop and gain further responsibility and skills.

I think my team would describe me as a very trustworthy person: they trust me and they trust in my decisions. I’m helpful and I take responsibility for whatever we’re doing.

What’s your favourite bit about your role?

I really do like a lot of what I do! I enjoy working with people, because I’m quite a ‘shop floor’ type manager. I'm not just sitting at my laptop, because I like to interact with people as much as I can. And, of course, I love the cosmetic industry. It's a really innovative sector to work in. I enjoy working for the company too: Hera Beauty offers flexibility as a personal care manufacturer and the quality of the products is excellent

What elements of your personality make you well-suited to this role?

I'm a team player. I’m reliable, loyal, and I like to get things done right and in a professional way. I'm 100% for the business. I like things to be done properly. My work ethic adds a lot to Hera Beauty and matches the culture here.

What would a typical day at Hera Beauty look like for you?

Usually, I start by briefing my team about the day’s tasks. I will speak with the line leaders to set up the working plan and then the rest of my day is overseeing and ensuring that all lines work well. I participate in meetings. I'm in constant contact with my production manager, with quality control, the dispatch team, and with maintenance for any other issues coming to the production lines. I'm checking that all health and safety standards and KPIs are met. I'm also looking ahead for what needs to be achieved over the next few days.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do in your spare time?

In my free time, I'm interested in sports. I used to play football for over 25 years, which unfortunately I cannot do now, due to injury. But I'm still trying to keep myself active by playing tennis, going to the gym, and hiking. I like to be outdoors. I am a really big music fan, so I attend festivals with my friends when I can. I enjoy travelling and seeing other cultures too.
